The Things I Love: Fitness Conference Edition

freebies from the idea world conference

For the second time, a themed edition of The Things I Love. This time: the things I love fitness conference edition!

Read prior things I like posts.

Last week, I attended Blogfest, a fitness blogging conference that is part of the IDEA World conference for fitness professionals and personal trainers.

Our swag bags were amazing, and the goodies at the expo were plentiful.

I’m still making my way through the goodies, samples, and companies I learned about, but a few things quickly rose to the top.

Quick Hits

La Croix Tote

How cute is this tote bag from La Croix Water!? In Oakland, plastic bags are banned. So I need a supply of reusable bags for Safeway and Target runs. This is a great addition.

Prana Pins

Forget their clothes (although their sale prices at the expo weren’t too bad), what I loved most at the Prana booth were the free pins.

I do love a good pun.

Dollamur Glass Bottle

Now this is a bottle with some heft! It’s too heavy to be a carry-around bottle, but it looks and feels great at my desk.

The company, Dollamur, makes flooring for gyms. It’s not something I’m in the market for, but if you are, check them out.

If their product is as good as their expo swag, it bodes well for them.

Icebreaker Bliss Wrap

It was 100+ degrees in Vegas. The conference rooms felt like they were somewhere around 55. We were working out and getting sweaty, then sitting in cold conference rooms, then going out into the blazing heat.

‘Layers’ was the watchword for the week.

My go-to travel layers come from Icebreaker, a New Zealand company that makes the most amazing merino wool clothes ever.

The Icebreaker Bliss Wrap top can be worn in several different ways, depending on your warmth and fashion needs. And since it is merino wool, it keeps you warm when it’s cold, and keeps you cool when it’s hot. Ah, the magic of merino wool.

Perfect when you need to keep warm as the sweat from the Strong by Zumba class starts to freeze on your arms in your next conference session.

Siggi’s Lemon Triple Cream Skyr

Skyr is an Icelandic yogurt. The traditional stuff is technically a cheese (or so I was told), but the American version is a yogurt – though I don’t know what the difference is. Skyr is a bit more tart than greek yogurt and with more protein.

Siggi’s sponsored our conference and supplied the snacks for breaks. We all pretty much survived on Skyr, dried fruit, and almonds for days (other food options at the conference center were a little thin and we didn’t have a ton of time to eat anyway).

I especially love Siggis triple cream in lemon, which is every bit as decadent as it sounds. It isn’t something I should have every day (although I did at Blogfest, because I could!), but it is an amazing treat.

La Colombe Coconut Mocha Latte

I’d never heard of La Colombe before the expo. They make cold brew coffee and draft lattes both on tap and in cans. I sampled many (OK, I sampled all) of their flavors over the course of the three-day expo.

My absolute obsession was the Coconut Mocha Latte.

The canned versions make a slightly foamy latte when opened. I won’t pretend to understand the science of it, but it is tasty.

Just be sure to take the advice not to shake the cans literally. I had a can in my bag for a bit as I walked around. When I later opened it, the latte exploded everywhere.

Pity that any of it went to waste.

Quantum CBD H2O

Two big product categories at the expo were workout beverages (waters, protein, and recovery drinks) and products made with hemp.

So, of course, there was one product that combines both: Quantum CBD H2O.

Quantum is water infused with CBD (yes, made from the hemp plant, but legal and non-psychoactive), electrolytes and minerals.

It isn’t a flavored water, but it has a tiny hit of an herbal flavor, almost a sensation more than a taste.

I couldn’t tell if it was the Quantum water, a combination of all of the samples I’d been consuming, or if it was totally psychosomatic, but in any case, I always felt great after drinking the stuff.
