The Things I Love This Week
Harry Potter and the Sacred Text
The Harry Potter and the Sacred Text podcast is hosted by two Harvard University divinity teachers who discuss the Harry Potter books chapter by chapter through the lens of a trait or emotion, such as friendship, excellence, doubt, or belonging, similar to the way sacred texts are read.
I have already outed myself as a Harry Potter geek, and I was already very familiar with both the books and the movies. I didn’t think it was possible to look at the books in an entirely new way, but every week they raise something in the text that I never thought of before.
With every episode, I find the books, and JK Rowling’s writing, even more amazing.

My jog bra situation is getting pretty dire. My favorite running bra ever had been discontinued, so I’ve kept the ones I have well past their expiration date. Now, even treating them carefully, they can’t live much longer. So I began a search for a new style.
What do I find? It’s back! my favorite is back!!!!
The Frog Bra from Title 9. A simple ‘major masher’ bra (in their words). This is not a jog bra for the gym girls who want cute patterns and high fashion. The Frog Bra is for runners who want to be smushed as flat as possible so that there is as little jiggling as possible. That perfectly describes me.
Admittedly, it can be tough to wiggle out of after a long, sweaty run, but it is so worth the trouble. Oh happy day!
I can finally retire my old ones after long and faithful service.
You Are a Badass

The best self-help book I have ever read (and re-read). It seemed to talk directly to me and some issues I’ve had recognizing my own worth, value, and general awesomeness.
Wry, sarcastic, and sincere (a hard combination to pull off), it is inspirational without being overly sappy.
A line from the intro is now my personal motto
“Be the brightest, happiest, and badassiest me.”
As someone who lives alone and loves desserts, baking can be tough. Do I make a whole cake? I’d just eat the whole thing and that’s no good for anyone. Mug cakes are huge on Pinterest, but so many seem to have a dozen ingredients. Way too much measuring for a single serving.
Then I found the 3-2-1 cake. It seemed too simple. I was very skeptical that it would work.
How wrong I was.
Here’s all it is:
- 1 box angel food cake mix
- 1 box cake mix, any flavor (I’ll vouch for devil’s food)
Combine the two mixes and store in a plastic container or large Ziplock bag.
When you want a cake, mix 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix mixture and 2 Tablespoons water in a mug. Microwave for 1 minute.
Voila single serving cake!
Eat plain or top with whipped cream, berries, or whatever you have. I often add a splash of Kahlua or St. Germain.
Stored in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware, the cake mixture keeps in the fridge for months. Ready for a single serving of cake anytime.
The perfect cake for a single girl.
